Japanese Speech Contest
Date/Time:       Saturday, February 15, 2025    9:30 a.m.
Place:                Qatar University, Research Complex (H10)
Organizer:         The Embassy of Japan in the State of Qatar
Co-organizer :    Japanese Language Teachers’ Association in Qatar (JALTAQ) , Qatar University
 
Entry Qualifications
Eligible candidates must meet the following requirements;
  1. Non-native Japanese speakers residing in Qatar
  2. Have not won the 1st place in Category C in the last 2 editions of the contest

A Recitation
 
None
 
Participants choose to read one of the story below.
B Free Speech 2½-3 minutes
 
Participants give a speech on a topic from the list below. Your speech must be based on personal experience and should convey your own feelings and impressions.
  • My Hero
  • My Treasure
  • Good things about Qatar that I want to introduce
C Free Speech 4-5 minutes
 
Participants give a speech on a topic from the list below.
At the end of the speech, questions related to the speech are asked in Japanese and participants answer the questions.
  • Reasons why I can fulfill my dream by learning Japanese
  • Similarities and differences between Japan and Qatar (or your home country)
  • My Ikigai, how it changed my life
 
* Category A: In case the number of applicants exceeds the limit, the Embassy will conduct a screening for the  applicants to determine the participants of this years’ contest.
* Slides or other tools are not allowed for any Category.
* Category A is for beginners.
* You may be asked to change your category based on the Embassy’s assessment.

Judging
- Criteria for A: pronunciation and manner.
- Criteria for B, C: content and structure, pronunciation and manner.
- Category C contestants will be asked questions after the speech, which will be included in the scoring.
- Category B and C contestants will be penalized for reading a copy of the speech.
- Overtime will be penalized.
