On November 11, 2024, the Embassy of Japan hosted a reception to mark the farewell of Ambassador Maeda and the Self-Defense Forces day. The guest of honor was Brigadier General Mohammed Salmeen Al-Jabri of Qatari Emiri Navy, and the reception was attended by more than 200 guests from the Qatari Armed Forces, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other defense and security-related ministries, Military Attaché and the local diplomatic corps.
In his speech, Ambassador Maeda mentioned the summit held in Qatar last year and the Defense Ministerial Meeting held in Singapore this year, and said that Qatar is an important partner for Japan not only in LNG trade but also in the field of security, and expressed his gratitude to all parties involved.
The guests enjoyed Japanese cuisine such as nigiri sushi, inari sushi, Maritime Self-Defense Force curry and Air Self-Defense Force fried chicken, and showed interest in the Iaido and kendo demonstrations.

On November 2 to 4, the destroyer Murasame of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) made a port call at Doha Port. About 170 people from the Japanese community living in Qatar gathered for a tour onboard the ship and enjoyed interacting with the crew. On the 3rd, a luncheon was held with Qatari Navy officials, Ambassador Maeda and Colonel Tatsukawa, the resident Defense attaché. The last day before its departure, Murasame engaged in a goodwill training with the Qatari Navy.

On February 26, Ambassador Maeda hosted a reception at the Ritz-Carlton Doha Hotel to celebrate the 64th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor. The reception was attended by H.E. Mr. Jassim bin Seif bin Ahmed Al Sulaiti, Minister of Transport, H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Fakhro, Director of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and approximately 300 guests.
This year, there was a Japanese food corner with fresh tuna, scallops, etc. imported from Japan to promote Japanese seafood products, and many guests enjoyed nigiri sushi prepared by the Ambassador's chef, as well as sashimi and tempura. In addition, many guests came to take a snapshot in front of the golden folding screen at the colorful wedding kimono photo corner at the entrance of the venue. On the day of the event, students from the Japan School of Doha enthusiastically sang the national anthems of Qatar and Japan, much to the delight of the guests.
In his speech, Ambassador Maeda referred to the summit meetings held in July and December of last year, and stressed the need to strengthen the relationship between Japan and Qatar in various fields towards achieving a sustainable peace and stability in the region.

On January 14, the Japan Day event was held at the Doha International Horticultural Expo. From the Japanese side, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Mitsuo Takahashi, Member of the House of Representatives Manabu Sakai, Member of the House of Representatives Naoki Furukawa, Ambassador Maeda, people from the flower and landscaping industry involved in the operation of the Japan Pavilion, as well as Mr. Yasuhiro Senoma, Chairman of Yokohama City Council, representatives from Yokohama, Japan, the next host city of Expo in 2027 attended the event. Ambassador H.E. Bader Omar Al-Dafa and Secretary General Mr. Muhammad Ali Al-Khoori were present from the Qatari side.
Prior to the greetings from Parliamentary Vice-Minister Takahashi and Ambassador Maeda, Ambassador Al-Dafa was presented with Japanese apples in the design of the flags of both countries. The guests then toured the Japan Pavilion, which featured a variety of indoor and outdoor plants. An Ikebana performance using traditional Japanese bamboo and flowers was then conducted at the reception, where the attendees enjoyed the Japanese various flowers and flower culture as well as the food served by the Japanese restaurants in Qatar.

On 27 February, Ambassador Maeda hosted a reception at the Sheraton Doha Hotel to celebrate the 63rd birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan. The reception was attended by H.E. Mr. Mohammed bin Ali bin Mohammed Al-Mannai, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Fakhroo, Director General of Protocols, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Ali Ibrahim Ahmed, Eritrean Ambassador, Dean of Diplomatic Corps and about 300 guests.
A large number of guests enjoyed the Japanese culinary, ranging from Ambassador’s Chef’s sushi, shrimp tempura, high quality melons from Shizuoka Prefecture, sake and Japanese whisky. In addition, the guests took photos with the traditional and colorful Kimono displayed at the venue.
In his speech, Ambassador Maeda highlighted the strong diplomatic ties between Japan and Qatar, which celebrated the 50th anniversary last year, and congratulated the huge success of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. He also touched upon the bilateral talks such as the Second Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue held in January and expressed his desire to strengthen the relations with Qatar in various sectors.
Moreover, prior to the reception, Ambassador Maeda held a press conference at his residence on 23 February. He spoke to journalists from major local newspapers in Qatar about the multi-faceted and strategic importance of Qatar for Japan beyond the LNG trade and Japan-Qatar relations’ future prospects.

Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado, as Honorary Patron of the Japan Football Association, visited Qatar from November 27th to December 3rd to attend the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. On November 27th, she watched the Japan vs Costa Rica match at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, and on November 28th, she visited the Japanese national team's campsite giving encouragement to the Japanese national team. On December 1st, she watched the match between Japan and Spain at Khalifa Stadium, where the top two teams of the group stage were decided, and gave warm congratulations to the players, managers, and staff who made it through to the first place.
During her stay in Qatar, Princess Takamado visited the Qatar National Museum on November 28th, the Museum of Islamic Art on the 30th and 321 Olympic Museum on December 3rd, where she learned about Qatar's history and Islamic art exhibition as well as the world history of sports accompanied by Ambassador Maeda. On the 29th, she also visited the Shafallah Center, which is an educational facility for disabled children, and interacted with the educators and students of the facility.

On March 21, Ambassador Satoshi Maeda hosted a reception to celebrate the participation of Qatar pavilion in Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. The reception was held at the Ambassador’s resident. His Excellency Mr. Sultan bin Rashid Al-Khater, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Members of Qatar Expo Committee, and other Qatari government officials and Japanese companies’ s representatives were present at the reception. They congratulated the official participation to Expo 2025,Osaka,Kansai by Qatar and the allocation of Qatari pavilion space.
On the day of the event, the souvenirs related to the Expo were distributed to visitors and PR video was showcased to strengthen and develop the cooperative relationship between the two countries toward the 2025 World Expo in Osaka, Kansai.

Ambassador Satashi Maeda hosted a reception at Marsa Malaz Kempinski Hotel to celebrate the 62nd birthday of His Majesty the Emperor on the 23rd of February. His Excellency Dr. Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Mr. Said Al Hajiri, Deputy Director of the Protocol Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Mr. Jai Singh Sohan, Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore and Chairman of Asian Ambassador’s Group in Doha, and approximately 200 people participated in the celebration. Japanese delicacies including sake, and Japanese whiskey were served at the venue. Especially the live Nigiri Sushi made from Japanese rice by Ambassador’s chef was very popular which led a long waiting line at the counter. In his speech, Ambassador Maeda praised the strong ties between Japan and Qatar in line with celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and spoke highly of Qatar's diplomatic efforts surrounding Afghanistan and mentioned prospects.

On February 4, Ambassador Satoshi Maeda held a reception to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Qatar. The reception was held at Baraha Square in Musheileb district in downtown Doha. His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, Assistant Foreign Minister for Regional Affairs, His Excellency Mr. Ibrahim Yousef Fakhroo, Director of Protocol department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Mr. Yousef bin Sultan Yousef Laram, Director of Asian Affairs department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and more than 60 invited guests including ambassadors and head of missions were present at the event. A video message from Mr. Satoru Katsuno, Chairman of the Japan-Qatar Friendship Association was also screened.
At the event, following the Japanese drums performance by volunteers from the Japanese society in Qatar, a projection mapping entitled "Together to the Future" was screened on the M7 wall celebrating the long and strong relationship between the two countries and looking forward to an even better future for the two countries. The event had a great turn out and the enthusiastic audience was showing their excitement by taking lots of photos and videos of the shows. In his speech, Ambassador Maeda expressed his appreciation for the strong bilateral relations that have been standing for a half century between Japan and Qatar, and expressed his hope that the cooperation will develop beyond the economic sector to encompass various fields.

On September 20th, Ambassador Sunaga paid a courtesy call on Staff Bir. Abdulaziz Saleh Al-Sulaiti, Head of International Military Cooperation Authority at the Base Al-Udeid. Ambassador Kazuo Sunaga hosted a press conference to celebrate the 61th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor. His Majesty was born on the 23rd of February 1960. Reporters of major newspapers in Qatar attended the press conference. During the press conference, Ambassador Sunaga congratulated His Majesty the Emperor of Japan on his birthday and noted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Qatar, and explained the friendly bilateral relations between the two countries, including economic and educational exchanges, as well as the Osaka International Expo 2025. Mr. Toyoji Fukawa, Ambassador’s chef prepared a traditional Japanese lunch box with a variety of exquisite authentic dishes. The bento box received great feedback from the attending local press, as it takes Halal and local food culture into consideration.

On February 10, 2021, Ambassador Sunaga met Maj. Gen. Dr Abdullah Yusuf al-Mal, adviser to H.E. the Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Follow-up Committee for the Implementation of the Global Programme of the Doha Declaration issued at the 13th UN Crime Congress, to discuss over the preparations for the 14th UN Crime Congress, which Japan will host in 2021.

On November 25, Ambassador Sunaga held a reception at Ambassador’s residence, inviting former Minister of Energy and Industry, H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, who was honored as a recipient of the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun on the occasion of 2020 Autumn Conforment of Decoration. H.E. Dr. Al Sada contributed to the supply of energy to Japan from 2011 to 2018 and the strengthening of relations between Japan and Qatar in his tenure as Minister of Energy and Industry. Especially when the nuclear power plant was shut down during the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, he contributed to supply an additional 4 million tons of LNG. In addition, he was involved in humanitarian assistance for recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake as the chairman of the Qatar side of the Japan-Qatar Joint Economic Committee. Japanese companies in the energy field also participated in the celebration and exchanged opinions on the future development of the energy field in Japan and Qatar.

Charge’d Affairs Daisuke Yamamoto attended the signing ceremony at Ministry of Trade and Energy Affairs for the memorandum of understanding between Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS), Qatar Electric Power and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA), and Qatar Power & Water Company (QEWC). This aims to support the training of electric power engineers in Qatar and to implement education and training programs based on an internship system that invite Qatar engineers in Japan.

On September 29, Qatar Leadership Centre (QLC) held an orientation meeting for the participants of the “Rising Leaders Program” prior to their visit to Japan. The orientation was attended by Kazuo Sunaga, Ambassador of Japan, Dr. Ali Jassim Alkubaisi (Acting Managing Director of QLC), Mr. Katsunari Otani (General Manager of the Doha Liaison Office ITOCHU Corporation) and the 45 participants in this program. QLC is chaired by His Excellency Sheikha Al-Mayassa bin Hamad Al-Thani and aims to educate the young leaders who will lead Qatar in the future. In the meeting prior to the orientation, Ambassador Sunaga and Dr. Alkubaisi reviewed the importance of the networking within the young leaders of both Japan and Qatar for the future contribution for mutual understanding between the two countries.

Ambassador Seiichi Otsuka hosted a reception to celebrate the 85th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor. His Majesty was born on the 23rd of December 1933. The Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, H E Dr. Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H. E. Ambassador Seiichi Otsuka hosted a reception at Ambassador’s Residence, to celebrate the 83rd birthday of His Majesty the Emperor, who was born on the 23rd of December. His Excellency Dr. Mohammad Bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, His Excellency Ambassador Ibrahim Fakhroo, Director of the Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and approximately 230 people participated in the reception. The distinguished guests have appreciated the delicacy of an assorted array of Japanese food such as “Sushi”, “Tempura” and “Yakitori”. At the special counter to promote the rice from Niigata prefecture, one of the finest quality rice produced in Japan and bars, many guests enjoyed the taste of Sake and the rice balls. In his remarks, Ambassador Otsuka talked about series of summit meetings that have been taking place between Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and expressed his strong wish to make bilateral relationship and further cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

On December1, 2015, Ambassador Shingo Tsuda hosted a reception at Ambassador’s Residence to celebrate the 82nd birthday of His Majesty the Emperor who was born on December 23. H.E. Dr. Issa Saad Al-Jafali Al-Nuaimi, Minister of Administrative Development, H.E. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Al-Thani, Foreign Minister's Assistant for International Cooperation, H.E. Ambassador Ibrahim Fakhro, Chief of the Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and approximately 260 people participated in the reception. The distinguished guests enjoyed an assorted array of Japanese food, such as “Sushi”, “Tempura” and “Yakitori” served along with the Japanese SAKE. In his remarks, Ambassador Tsuda went over the major developments of the bilateral relations between Japan and Qatar for the year 2015, citing the visit of H.H. the Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to Japan in February as well as the high-level people to people exchanges which reflect on stronger bilateral ties binding the two countries. He expressed his hope for the bilateral ties to witness further progress in various fields under a comprehensive partnership. Besides, the Ambassador announced the launching of a documentary movie entitled ‘Beyond Tsunami: Sanma and Qatar’, which will be screened simultaneously in Tokyo and Doha, showing the people’s efforts in recovering from the disastrous aftermaths of Tsunami 2011with the support of Qatar.

November 30, The Exchange of Diplomatic Notes regarding the Entry into Force of the Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of the State of Qatar for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes on Income
- On November 30, 2015, the diplomatic notes was exchanged in Doha, the State of Qatar, between the Embassy of Japan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar (Department of Asian Affairs) for “the Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of the State of Qatar for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes on Income” (signed on February 20, 2015) in order to entry into force.
- The Agreement will come in effect on December 30, 2015 (the thirtieth day after the date of exchange of diplomatic notes).
- The notes were exchanged between Mr. Shingo Tsuda, Ambassador of Japan to the State of Qatar and H.E. Mr. Khalid Ibrahim Abdulrahman Al-Hamar, Director of the Asian Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the Ministry.

May 11-13, Visit of Mayor of Onagawa Town, Miyagi Prefecture, and delegation of Qatar Friendship Fund
On May 11-13, Mr. Yoshiaki Suda, Mayor of Onagawa town and delegation of Qatar Friendship Fund (QFF) visited Qatar upon the invitation from the Government of Qatar. On May 12, Mayor Suda made a speech as one of the panelists in the session of “Human Development Issues and Human Security” of the 15th Doha Forum which took place in Doha. In his speech, Mayor Suda expressed his gratitude to the Government of Qatar’s support to build “Maskar”, a multifunctional fish processing facility, through QFF project. And on May 13, Mayor Suda and the delegation of QFF paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Tsuda and briefed on the projects of QFF.

April 12-19, the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice
The 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (the 13th Congress) was held in Doha with more than 4,000 participants from 149 countries. This conference is convened every five year and it is the biggest conference organized by the United Nations in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. From Japan, H.E. Mr. Kotaro ONO, Prosecutor-General, Head of Japanese delegation, attended this conference. In this conference, it has been decided that Japan would host the next conference (the 14th Congress) in 2020.

March 16, The 3rd Seminar on Infrastructure Projects in Qatar
H.E. Mr. Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, President of the Administrative Control & Transparency Authority and H.E. Mr. Motoi Sasaki, Vice-Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Japan, co-chaired the 3rd Seminar on Infrastructure Projects in Qatar in which about 100 people from Japan and Qatar participated. Ambassador Tsuda stated that Qatar and Japan have been maintaining excellent relations over the years. He expected that this co-chaired seminar would be significant step in widening the path of cooperation in various projects and would positively stimulate for further cooperation in both public and private sectors between the two countries.

The Embassy of Japan hosted the opening of the Japan's Hokkaido Food Fair at the Ambassador’s residence in cooperation with the Hokkaido Bureau of the Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry (METI) in Japan. Ambassador Tsuda introduced various fascinating aspects of Hokkaido, which attracts tourists from around the world through year. He also highlighted the excellent relations between Japan and Qatar over the years, and the importance to enhance the bilateral cooperation between both countries especially in agriculture sector.

On January 29, Onagawa town delegation visited Qatar headed by Mr. Youetsu ISHIMORI, Vice-Chairman of Onagawa Fish Market Buyers’ Association, composed of 7 members including Mr. Shizuo SUZUKI, President of Onawaga Revival Support Network, Mr. Michimasa MATSUSHIMA, Director-General of Onawaga Revival Support Network. The delegation, with Ambassador Tsuda, paid a separated courtesy call on H.E. Ceremony of Conferment of the 2013 Autumn Imperial Decorations on a former local employee of the Embassy of Japan
On January 12th, the Ceremony of Conferment of the 2013 Autumn Imperial Decorations on Mr. Vijay Kumar Sharma, a former local employee (Indian national) of the Embassy of Japan in the State of Qatar took place at the Ambassador’s residence. Mr. Sharma was employed between 1981 and 2013, and was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Rays, in recognition of his significant contributions to enhance the relationship between Japan and the State of Qatar. Mr. Sharma’s family members were present at the ceremony. Mr. Sharma was given the order and patent of the decoration by Ambassador Tsuda.
