November 25, 2020 Celebration for the former Minister of Energy and Industry, H. E. Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada upon receiving the 2020 Autumn Imperial Decorations

On November 25, Ambassador Sunaga held a reception at Ambassador’s residence, inviting former Minister of Energy and Industry, H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, who was honored as a recipient of the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun on the occasion of 2020 Autumn Conforment of Decoration. H.E. Dr. Al Sada contributed to the supply of energy to Japan from 2011 to 2018 and the strengthening of relations between Japan and Qatar in his tenure as Minister of Energy and Industry. Especially when the nuclear power plant was shut down during the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, he contributed to supply an additional 4 million tons of LNG. In addition, he was involved in humanitarian assistance for recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake as the chairman of the Qatar side of the Japan-Qatar Joint Economic Committee. Japanese companies in the energy field also participated in the celebration and exchanged opinions on the future development of the energy field in Japan and Qatar.

October 5,2020 Ambassador Sunaga met Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Japan HE Mr. Hassan Bin Mohammed Rafei Al-Emadi

Ambassador Kazuo Sunaga met with Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Japan HE Mr. Hassan Bin Mohammed Rafei Al-Emadi on October 5. The two officials reviewed the bilateral cooperation and exchanged views of Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic and FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

September 28, 2020 Ambassador Sunaga met Minister of Transport and Communications HE Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti

Minister of Transport and Communications HE Jassim Saif Al-Sulaiti met with Ambassador Kazuo Sunaga, in Ministry offices on September 28, 2020. The two officials reviewed cooperation relations between the two friendly countries in the fields of transportation and communications and means of further developing them.

February 19, 2020 Emperor’s Birthday Reception

Ambassador Kazuo Sunaga hosted a reception to celebrate the 60th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor. His Majesty was born on the 23rd of Febrary 1960. The Minister of Transport and Communications, H.E. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti, Undersecretary of Education and Higher Education, H.E. Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh bin Khalifa Al-Nuaimi, Chief of the Protocol of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H. E. Mr. Ibrahim Fakhro, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, H.E. Ambassador Ali Ibrahim Ahmed and approximately 340 people participated in the celebration. In his remarks, Ambassador Sunaga expressed thanks to H.H The Amir Sheikh Tamim for visiting Japan twice in 2019. He also talked about Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics in 2020 as well as the bilateral relationships between Japan and the State of Qatar.

January 16th, 2020 New Year Reception in Qatar

Ambassador and Mrs. Sunaga hosted a reception at his residence, inviting the Japanese community in Qatar to celebrate the New Year 2020. In Ambassador’s address, he wishes for their good health and success in the Year 2020. He also underlined Japan’s contribution to Qatar in various fields. More than 120 guests attended the reception and enjoyed the traditional Japanese New Year dishes such as sweetened black bean (Kuromame) and sweet chestnut paste (Kuri kinton).

September 22, Charge’d Affairs Yamamoto attending the signing ceremony for the Qatar technician training system

Charge’d Affairs Daisuke Yamamoto attended the signing ceremony at Ministry of Trade and Energy Affairs for the memorandum of understanding between Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS), Qatar Electric Power and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA), and Qatar Power & Water Company (QEWC). This aims to support the training of electric power engineers in Qatar and to implement education and training programs based on an internship system that invite Qatar engineers in Japan.

October 20, 2019, Ambassador Kazuo Sunaga visited His Excellency Sheikh Abdulla bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior

The Ambassador of Japan to the State of Qatar, His Excellency Kazuo Sunaga, paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency Sheikh Abdulla bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, at the Emiri Diwan in order to introduce himself as new Ambassador of Japan. Their Excellences also discussed about the bilateral relationships.

September 29 Orientation for the future leaders of Qatar before their visit to Japan

On September 29, Qatar Leadership Centre (QLC) held an orientation meeting for the participants of the “Rising Leaders Program” prior to their visit to Japan. The orientation was attended by Kazuo Sunaga, Ambassador of Japan, Dr. Ali Jassim Alkubaisi (Acting Managing Director of QLC), Mr. Katsunari Otani (General Manager of the Doha Liaison Office ITOCHU Corporation) and the 45 participants in this program. QLC is chaired by His Excellency Sheikha Al-Mayassa bin Hamad Al-Thani and aims to educate the young leaders who will lead Qatar in the future. In the meeting prior to the orientation, Ambassador Sunaga and Dr. Alkubaisi reviewed the importance of the networking within the young leaders of both Japan and Qatar for the future contribution for mutual understanding between the two countries.

September 23, 2019 Ambassador Kazuo Sunaga Presented his Credentials to His Highness Sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Thani

The Ambassador of Japan to the State of Qatar, His Excellency Kazuo Sunaga, presented His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani, Deputy Emir of the State of Qatar with his predecessor's Letter of Recall and his own Letter of Credence at the Emiri Diwan. On the previous day, the Ambassador submitted the copies of his predecessor's Letter of Recall and his own Letter of Credence to His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. . The Ambassador was accompanied by Madame Sunaga and senior staff of the Embassy.

December 3, 2018 Emperor’s Birthday Reception

Ambassador Seiichi Otsuka hosted a reception to celebrate the 85th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor. His Majesty was born on the 23rd of December 1933. The Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, H E Dr. Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H. E. Dr. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi, Chief of the Protocol of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H. E. Mr. Ibrahim Fakhro, Deputy Dean of the Diplomatic Corp, the Ambassador of Palestine to Qatar, H.E. Mr. Mounir Abdallah Gannam and approximately 340 people participated in the celebration. Japanese delicacies such as rice ball which is made of Japanese rice, Sake and Japanese whisky were provided. In his remarks, Ambassador Otsuka talked about His Majesty the Emperor's anticipated abdication in 2019, regional situations as well as the bilateral relationships between Japan and the State of Qatar.

Ambassador and Mrs. Otsuka hosted a reception at his residence, inviting the Japanese community in Qatar to celebrate the New Year 2018, wishing for their good health and introduced achievements by Japanese people. In his address, he underlined Japan’s contribution to Qatar in various fields. More than 160 guests attended the reception and enjoyed the traditional Japanese New Year dishes and its atmosphere.

December 16, 2017 Participated in the Qatar National Day Parade

Embassy of Japan in the State of Qatar and voluntary members of Japanese Community participated in the Qatar National Day Parade on December 16 upon the request by the government of Qatar among other nations. Some participants wearing kimono were highlighted in local TV with Japanese flag.

December 3, 2017 Emperor’s Birthday Reception

Ambassador Seiichi Otsuka hosted the 84th birthday reception of His Majesty the Emperor, who was born on the 23rd of December. His Excellency Dr. Mohammad Bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, His Excellency Ambassador Ibrahim Fakhroo, Director of the Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and approximately 270 people participated in the reception. The distinguished guests have appreciated the delicacy of an assorted array of Japanese food such as “Sushi”, “Tempura” and “Yakitori”. At the counters where the quality rice from Japan and Japanese sake were served, many guests enjoyed the taste of Sake and the rice balls. In his remarks, Ambassador Otsuka talked about His Majesty the Emperor’s activities, Japanese economy, International and regional situations as well as the bilateral relationships in Arabic.

October 17 Presentation for junior diplomats at Diplomatic Institute, MOFA, Qatar

On October 17, Ambassador Otsuka gave a presentation for the junior diplomats at “the Diplomatic Institute” of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Qatar. Questionnaires asked by participants reflect high level of interest on Japan and bilateral relationship between the two countries.

Participants of the meeting were Ambassador of Japan, Seiichi Otsuka, Dr. Mohammad Najdawi, Program Director of QLC, Mr. Shoji Kiuchi, General Manager of Itochu Doha Liaison Office and participants of this program scheduled to visit Japan. Ambassador Otsuka encouraged the participants and said that he hoped their visit to Japan would be an invaluable experience.

February 5, 2017 Ambassador Otsuka visited Qatar University

Ambassador Otsuka visited Qatar University and met with Dr. Hasssan Al Derham, the President of Qatar University. During the meeting, they discussed ways to further enhance cooperation in educational field including Japanese language program.

December 13, 2016 Emperor’s Birthday Reception

Ambassador Seiichi Otsuka hosted a reception at Ambassador’s Residence, to celebrate the 83rd birthday of His Majesty the Emperor, who was born on the 23rd of December. His Excellency Dr. Mohammad Bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, His Excellency Ambassador Ibrahim Fakhroo, Director of the Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and approximately 230 people participated in the reception. The distinguished guests have appreciated the delicacy of an assorted array of Japanese food such as “Sushi”, “Tempura” and “Yakitori”. At the special counter to promote the rice from Niigata prefecture, one of the finest quality rice produced in Japan and bars, many guests enjoyed the taste of Sake and the rice balls. In his remarks, Ambassador Otsuka talked about series of summit meetings that have been taking place between Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and expressed his strong wish to make bilateral relationship and further cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
