Japanese Government (MEXT) 2026 Scholarship for Qatari Nationals

This scholarship is only open to applicants with Qatari citizenship. If you were born or raised in Qatar but possess citizenship of another country, kindly direct your inquiries to the Embassy/Consolate of Japan in your country of citizenship.
Application Instructions
- Application Deadline: June 15, 2025 (Sunday)
- Submission: Email ONLY to the Japanese Embassy. No need to visit the Embassy.
- Required Documents: Find the list at the link provided
- Email Guidelines: Send all documents in one email as separate, clearly scanned PDF files.
- Subject Line: MEXT Scholarship with your Name.
- Total Email Size: Under 10MB. If larger, send in two emails and indicate this.
- Emails over 10MB will be rejected.
Important Notes:
- The Certificate of Health form is to be submitted only by applicants who have passed the first screening.
- Incomplete or unclear applications will not be considered.
- No late submissions accepted.
- If you pass the initial screening, you'll need to send original paper documents later.
Scholarship Selection Process
Stage 1: First Screening
The Embassy of Japan in Qatar will select preliminary candidates. The requirements for the first screening differ slightly depending on the type of student:
- Undergraduate Students: The first screening will consist of a review of documents, examinations (English, Japanese, Mathmatics), and if you chose Natural Sciences, Chemistry + Physics or Chemistry + Biology according to your major.
- Research Students: The first screening will consist of a review of documents and language examinations (English and Japanese).
Successful candidates in the examinations will proceed to interviews. Those who pass the first screening will be recommended to the Japanese government (MEXT) for the second screening.
Stage 2: Second Screening
The Japanese government (MEXT) will conduct the final selection of successful candidates.

Important Information
- You must take the written exams in person, at the Japanese Embassy in Doha, on the date provided. There are no alternative dates, locations, or online options. (mid-June)
- Research students who successfully pass the first screening by the Embassy of Japan will be required to contact universities in Japan to seek a provisional acceptance letter no later than September 1, 2025.
- If you get the scholarship, you'll do a language course before university: one year for undergraduate students, and six months for research students. Applicants who have sufficient Japanese language proficiency may request to enroll directly in their university without taking the preparatory education course.
